Balance

Reflection Symmetry- Both halves are perfect, and if folded in half, would line up perfectly.
Ruiz, Alex. The portal of destiny. 2012. DeviantArt. Web. 16 Nov. 2012.
<http://alexruizart.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d4pzlv1>
As you can see above, the face shows perfect symmetry, if folded in half, it would line up perfectly.

Asymmetrical Balance- Both sides are completely different and they do not match up no matter what.
Powell, Rob. Asymmetrical Tree Crab. 2012. DeviantArt. Web. 16 Nov. 2012.
 <http://rpowell77.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4p29cb>

Radial Balance- All elements radiate or circle out from a specific point.
The portal of destiny. 2008. DeviantArt. Web. 16 Nov. 2012.
 <http://autumnsgoddess.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=216#/d1ntnmp>

Scale & Proportion

Exaggeration Scale- When small objects, or subjects, are magnified, appearing bigger than they usually are.
Snake. 2008. DeviantArt. Web. 16 Nov. 2012.
<http://o0-pangea-0o.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=/&offset=120#/d184eeo>
As you can see, a snake usually does not appear that large, but because of the exaggerated scale, it is.

Hierarchic scaling- The size of the figure determine importance.
Lazcano, Ignacio B. The King. 2010. DeviantArt. Web. 16 Nov. 2012.
<http://neisbeis.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=72#/d2x3fw4>.
As you can see above, the Kingly figure in the middle is slightly larger than the other figures around him, drawing your eyes to him first.

Surrealism- An artistic style that stressed a subconscious approach, often resulting in images that cannot be explained.
Avilés, Daniel. Digital surrealism. 2011. DeviantArt. Web. 16 Nov. 2012.
<http://artmus.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d39hpux>
This image cannot be explained and seems to be in a strange alien world. Thus surrealism.

Illusion of Space

Illusion of Space

Foreshortening- to shorten by proportionately contracting in the direction of depth so that an illusion of projection or extension in space is obtained
Demon Hunter. 2012. Blizzard. Web. 2 Nov. 2012.
 <http://us.battle.net/d3/en/media/artwork/?keywords=&view#/artwork-class-demonhunter05>.
As you can see in the image above. The female's arm, the one behind the head, looks smaller than the other arm that is coming towards the viewer.

Arias, Gonzalo O. Warcraft X Diablo. 2012. DeviantArt. Web. 2 Nov. 2012.
<http://genzoman.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d5j0pbf>.
As you can see, the character in the front is overlapping the character in the back. Giving the illusion of depth.

Morning. 2012. DeviantArt. Web. 2 Nov. 2012.
<http://alectorfencer.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d5j2m5s>.
